Off to Cancun!

Published by Yanik under Personal

dsc 8703 edit Off to Cancun!February and March are gonna be busy, busy, busy!
vide Off to Cancun!
I’m leaving tomorrow for Cancun on a 5 day photo shoot for a new book. I have to say that I’m ecstatic that my client chose somewhere warm with palm trees and blue water, not to mention the 5 star resort! It’s that time of year where I start going all “bah, hum bug” about winter. I was never a big fan of winter; the cold, shoveling snow, -30 degrees, car that won’t start, climbing on my roof to get the snow off my Internet satellite, did I mention the cold? So this is a great gift. I really love my job!

After that? Another book shoot in Albany, NY and a video shoot in beautiful Jamaica; both in March. This means lots of fun and close to 1000 images to post process in a very short amount of Continue Reading »

Introduction to Macro Photography – Part 1

Published by Yanik under Intro to Photography, TUTORIALS

mouche7 Introduction to Macro Photography Part 1I wanted to start the year off with this tutorial because I truly enjoy macro photography. When I purchased my first digital camera, one of my main criteria was it’s macro capabilities. Then, when I purchased my Nikon D70 kit, the next lens I bought was my Sigma 105mm macro. There’s an intimacy with this style of photography that I find calming… zen-like. Getting up close to your subject and viewing all its details makes me appreciate the small wonders all around. Seeing light up close makes me understand it better. I also find that my other senses are amplified when shooting macro. I’m so focused on the present moment that I can feel the slightest Continue Reading »

YPS’s Best Photography Tutorials of 2008

Published by Yanik under TUTORIALS, Tips & Tricks

tuts YPSs Best Photography Tutorials of 2008Yanik’s Photo School went live on April 5th of this year. Actually, it was called Yanik’s Photo Blog then and I wasn’t really sure where I would be going with it. It didn’t take long for me to change the name and focus the site on photography learning. Looking back, I’m glad I chose this area of photography since I combined two passions: photography and teaching.

I’m also very excited for 2009! I’ m in the process of moving to Montreal (hopefully in April) which will give me access to 2 professional studios which means more tutorials on a subject close to me: lighting! :) I’ll also have a video camera to show you detailed Continue Reading »
