grasshopper5 And the Crickets are Chirping at YPSHello Everybody!

It’s been a while since I posted… November… but not to worry. I’m in good spirits! icon smile And the Crickets are Chirping at YPS
vide And the Crickets are Chirping at YPS
The reason why the crickets are chirping here is that I’m super busy on other important projects in my personal and professional life. On a personal level, I’m moving house in a few weeks so you can imagine that the last few months or so have been hectic to say the least. I’m in boxes up to my wazu!

And professionally… I can’t really give you details right now but you’ll know soon enough when all the wheels will be set in motion. The only hint I can give you is Continue Reading »

Behind the Scenes of the Joan of Arc Photo Shoot

Published by under Personal,Photo Shoots

all 5 400x233 Behind the Scenes of the Joan of Arc Photo ShootA while back I had the pleasure of being part of a wonderful team of creators that all gave their time and talent for a very special photo shoot. My friend and talented makeup artist Catherine Lavoie, had a vision for doing a fashion shoot depicting the 5 stages of Joan of Arc’s (Jeanne d’Arc) life. She started by drawing colored sketches of her vision and from there assembled her team to bring her imagination into reality.

Shot over 2 days at the BlahBlah studio here in Montreal, the team gelled well together and we all had a blast! The photographer Continue Reading »

Costa Rica Through my Lens

Published by under Personal

YAN 7206 250x250 Costa Rica Through my LensBeautiful Costa Rica! What can I say… I had a blast! 2 weeks of pure pleasure. If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you’ve seen some of my Costa Rica iPhone shots and video clips as my trip progressed. I even did a “before and after” Lightroom video tutorial on one of my photos.

All I can say is WOW! If you love nature and wildlife, you’ll be like a kid in a candy store over there. Get yourself a 4×4 jeep, a GoPro HD video camera and just let your imagination run wild. You won’t regret it!
vide Costa Rica Through my Lens
For video clips I mainly used my D300s and my GoPro HD (with helmet gear and suction cup for the jeep).  Doing video with the Nikon D300s with a 80-400mm VR lens on was remarkable. I got chills filming Continue Reading »

How You Can Help the Gulf Oil Spill Wildlife

Published by under Personal

bird oil 250x250 How You Can Help the Gulf Oil Spill WildlifeEveryone around the world has probably heard of the Gulf Oil Spill by now. The biggest environmental disaster of all time. Most of us feel helpless in our homes not sure what to do or how to help. I know I felt that way. Once that feeling left, the first question that popped into my mind was “How can I help?”.
vide How You Can Help the Gulf Oil Spill Wildlife
After a few weeks of letting the idea mull in the back of my mind, I had an idea. I’ve been wanting to design photography related slogans and quotes for quite some time now but always shoved the idea aside by putting other projects in priority. But now I felt it was time for Continue Reading »

From Theory to Creativity to Practice

Published by under Personal

IMG 3649.thumbnail From Theory to Creativity to PracticeIt’s been a looooooooooooooong time since I posted a new tutorial on YPS.  2010 has been a changing year for me both personally and professionally.  I needed to refocus my photography career. Believe it or not, I was getting bored. I was loosing my passion. Yup, you read correctly. And why was that, I asked myself. I still love taking photos. I do it every day with my iPhone and I don’t get tired of it. Those of you following me on Twitter, Facebook or Flickr see them.  I still like shooting for my clients. So what was the missing piece? That spark that got me going? That was my million dollar question…

And the answer came a few days later like Continue Reading »

YPS Blog Downtime

Published by under Personal

broken link.thumbnail YPS Blog DowntimeIt had to happen at some point….. roughly 3 days ago Yanik’s Photo School got a bug. The only page you could access was the index page.  All other links were corrupted.
vide YPS Blog Downtime
The thing is that I was on a shoot and then went directly out of town for the weekend none the wiser. Boy was I surprised when I accessed YPS on Saturday to find out it was down! PANIC! I tried installing a backup… nothing.  I tried re-posting some content…. nothing. I googled far and wide in cyber space to find any hint… nothing. I called my server to see if they had done something… nope.
vide YPS Blog Downtime
It was only today that I finally found out what had happened. The htacces file had vanished. How and why is still a mystery since I hadn’t touched YPS before the event. The happy thing is that all is back in order!
