Moiré is a wavy colored pattern that occurs when an object that is being photographed contains repetitive details (such as lines, dots, etc…) that exceed the sensor resolution.

Some cameras have an anti-alias filter which reduces or prevents moiré but this filter also reduces image sharpness.
