As you might already know, I’m a big fan of Lightroom 2 as you can see  by me 3 video tutorials. So I’m pissin’ my pants so excited right now! I just discovered the DNG color profiles for Lightroom 2 or ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) 4.5. This is a life saver!

If you’re like me and you shoot Raw, you probably know that the Adobe Products have problems reading the Raw color profiles. It’s not really their fault. It’s that the manufacturers like Canon and Nikon “hide” some of the data in their Raw file from 3rd party applications like Adobe. So then Adobe has the “guestimate” what that hidden info is.And since tons of photographers use either Photoshop or Lightroom, there were lots of complaints all over the Web. I know that I spent long hours trying to find a solution to this without success.

The main issue was with the warm color tones like the reds being washed out to sickly orangy-yellowish tones. Once imported I would have to manually color callibrate one image and then copy those settings to my batch. I never got the exact match (comparing it to Nikon Capture NX) but close enough. It was quite time consuming and I had given up on ever finding a solution. Until now!

The booboo is fixed thanks to the DNG color profiles. You can download them straight from the Adobe page.

Here are 2 examples of how great the DNG profiles work. The first image is how Lighrtoom (or ACR) interprets the colors. The second is with the DNG profile selected in LR 2 and the third compares it to Nikon Capture NX.

All I have to say is THANK YOU Adobe for resolving this very important issue! I can color adjust all my images with just one click! Woohoo!
