Photoshop Video Tutorial – Adding a Reflection

Published by Yanik at 7:21 am under Photoshop Tutorials, TUTORIALS, Video Tutorials

PS_logo.jpg This Photoshop™ video tutorial is all about adding a reflection to an object or person that is on a white background. The effect we’re after is to make it look like they’re on a shiny surface. This reflection effect can be done also on a black or any uniformed colored background. This type of reflection is popular with isolated objects in stock photo libraries. Enough rambling! Let’s get right down to it! :)

Enjoy!

Nice Vid. I really like your turtorials. But this time i would do the gradient in a non-destructive way by using a black layer mask with the white gradient on it. Even though the outcome would look similar. I screw up my pictures so often that I try to work as non-destructively as possible. So just mentioning. ^^

Great! I don’t shoot portraits but I think I’ll give that a go with some macro shots.

    This is very helpful!

I would love to see a tutorial on lighting a small product (such as the stethoscope) on white in the future.

    Ramona:

What you’re doing is going into the Image menu. Go into the EDIT menu and select TRANSFORM. That should do it. :)

    Yanik

Any suggestions on how to make the reflection appear a bit “glossy” if you indeed did not shoot the original on a shiny floor/sruface? A reflection on a matte surface just doesn’t look “real” to me, as a matte surface isn’t likely to reflect.

Thanks, and keep up the awesome work!!
