Photoshop Video Tutorial - High Pass Sharpening

Here we go with another cool Photoshop video tutorial. In this video, we’ll look at a different way to sharpen photos. You might be used to using the Unsharp Mask or Smart Sharpen filters in Photoshop which do a relatively good job.

But this time I’ll show you a way using the high pass filter. It’s just as fast and I personnaly think it’ more versatile and a lot less destructive. Enjoy!

I would just add that if you wanted to selectivly apply this, rather than mask what you don’t want sharpened, it may be easier to mask the entire layer in black, then paint back in with white where you do want it such as the eyes only.

Interesting Yanik. I’ve never liked the destructive look of Unsharp Mask. I have used Fred Miranda’s Intellisharpen II with success. I’m curious if his routine incorporates any High Pass sharpening.
